The process of high – temperature hydrolysis of magnesium nitrate hexahydrate was investigated. IR spectroscopy and X- ray analysis revealed the presence of base magnesium nitrate in the product of decomposition at 160°C. The mechanism of high- temperature hydrolysis of Mg(NO3)2 ⋅ 6H2O was proposed.
