Density of sodium borate melts containing mechanically activated oxides Ln2O3 (Ln = Er, Tm, Yb, Lu)

ABSTRACT:

Density (ρ) of sodium borate melts with additives of 1 wt % mechanically activated heavy lanthanum oxides (Er2O3, Tm2O3, Yb2O3, Lu2O3) was studied by the sessile drop method in the range from the solidification temperature to 1423 K. The linear dependences of the values of ρ on temperature were established and its temperature coefficients were calculated. It is shown that the density changes caused by the additions of sodium oxide are due to the influence of Na2O on the structure of the three-component borate melts.
