Aluminothermic obtaining of Al–Zr alloys in KF–AlF3 melt

ABSTRACT:

Al–Zr alloys with zirconium uniform distribution and concenrtation from 0.21 to 0.62 wt % were obtained in KF–AlF3 melt with additions of ZrO2 from 0.5 to 1.0 wt % via aluminum-thermal method.  It was concluded that ZrO2 has recovered by metallic aluminum with formation of intermetallic compound Al3ZrO on the basis of the microscope analysis of the obtained alloys structure and thermodynamic assessment.
