The effect of lanthanide group rare earth oxides activated mechanically on surface tension of borate melts

The surface tension values σ of the  boron oxide based melts with addition of the lanthanide group rare earth elements oxides (1 wt%) activated mechanically were measured in the temperature range of 800-1650 K by the method of laying drop. It was determined that the surface tension dependencies on temperature have linear character. The temperature coefficients of these dependencies were calculated. The σ dependence in the series borate melts being studied is conformed to an inter-row periodicity with  the increasing atomic number of the lanthanide.
