Electochemical properties of molybdenium in individual molten alkali metal chlorides and their mixtures

 ABSTRACT: The behavior of molybdenum in chloride melts was studied; conditional standard potentials of Mo in the melts based on the LiCl-KCl-CsCl eutectic mixtures at 633-1073 K, NaCl-CsCl at 793-1023 K, and the NaCl-KCl equimolar melt at 973-1123 K, individual LiCl, NaCl, KCl, RbCl, CsCl at 1123 K were determined using the experimental data. The change of the conditional standard Gibbs energy for formation of molybdenum trichloride in the NaCl-KCl, NaCl-CsCl, LiCl-KCl-CsCl melts were calculated. The effect of the salt-solvent cation composition on the value of molybdenum conditional standard electrode potential in chloride melts was considered. The diffusion coefficients of Mo(III) ions in the LiCl-KCl-CsCl melt were revealed.
